The start of W.T.F?( What's This Food?) at the Oakland Farmer's Market.

We went searching for the perfect unusual fruit or vegetable at the Oakland Farmer's Market for our new series - "What's This Food?"on Youth Radio Eats. It was certainly a hard and enjoyable time. It started to get hard when everything we saw was something that knew of like.... peaches, cherries, apples and blueberries. Right when we thought we were out of luck Rynesha shouted "oh my god what's this?", the vegetable that Rynesha was holding was called a Bitter Melon. Bitter Melons come from all over Asia, the one that Rynesha is holding came from southwest Asia also known as india, the more softer looking one came from china. Right after we purchased the Bitter Melon we ran straight into this other stand that had this really awkward curved thing that looked as if it belonged to the cucumber family. As I walked closer to the man who was selling the fruit Kavon began to ask him what it was, he told him it was a luffa and Kavon also asked him what is it good in and he said you peel it,chop it and cook it in stir fry, We were very excited to try this fruit. Luffa's also come from asia but the triopical side of asia, for expample Vietnam and Malayalam. We got back to Youth Radio and we were really scared to try the Bitter Melon but we did and it was the most disgusting thing I have had in my whole life and I will never, never try this again, after that exhausting, horrible moment we peeled the luffa and it was really nice and beautiful on the inside, since we didnt have any time to cook it we just cut it into small pieces like a cucumber. The luffa was the most sweetest thing it was a really great snack after eating some thing so horrid; it made my day. You never know what kinds of fruits or vegetables you'll find at a farmer's market but if you see something that looks interesting don't be afraid to try it.
