Women's Health: Living Longer

Women have longer life and than men by about 8 years. This is most likely a lot to do with genetics and evolution, but some having to with our culture and behaviors. Women don't die of heart related problems as much as men do. “men be stressin” but this does hold truth about men. Men keep in their stress and don't let it out as well as women do, which raises heart problems. To add, most men have bad eating habits such as eating red meat which strains more on the heart. This is do to men trying to act “big and strong” because society and the media portrays them this way. Men also smoke a lot more than women do, which could also be an example of letting out stress, but sadly in the wrong way.  Men also think there more attractive than they really are according to the dove real beauty campaign. Therefore,  this probably might has to do with man's arrogance and repressiveness of who they really are resulting in them be stressed about who they are. Women have their share of problems with letting out stress as well but not to the extent of lowering their life expectancy.

This points out plainly that men need change the way they deal with stress and behaviors.  Maybe to start acting more like women do, curiously, might be the answer to man's life expectancy problems.  Of course you can't change the fact that women give birth and men naturally have more testosterone, so some behaviors might be set in stone but the way “men be stressin” should change. shout out to women.

Women's Health: Drinking

In the media, TV shows like Jersey Shore, show women who take alcohol a little too far. They are constantly out partying and drinking until they black out. It can be dangerous to drink at such a high rate that often like these women on the show for many reasons. It can especially harm womens bodies if they are going to have children at some point. Drinking affects the organs in your body harshly, and it would be awful to have that later affect your children.

Drinking isn't always a bad thing though, it can often be a nice way to relax after a long day at work. Some women like to go out for drinks and socialize, as long as they know their limits and how it can harm their body, so they need to use it safely and wisely.

Women Domestic Abuse

Did you know every 9 seconds in the U.S. a woman is domestically assaulted or beaten? Domestic violence, especially for women, is an underlying issue that is generally not known because we live in a culture where it is normal for women to be suppressed. Statistics show that one in four women is a victim of domestic violence. It is the leading cause of women injury more than car accidents, rape, and robbery combined. There is many types of domestic abuse, such as financial abuse, mental abuse, and physical abuse. Women commonly are unlikely to flee from such relationships because they are reliant on their partner’s protection for their survival. They choose to stay, but that decision often causes them to be abused/harassed verbally or physically. Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police. Everyday in the US, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends.
If you are a victim of domestic violence, you can always access their hotlines such as 1-800-799-SAFE (1-800-787-3224). You can also get health and relationship tips from www.bom411.com. Ninety-two percent of women surveyed listed reducing domestic violence and sexual assault as their top concern, so you are not alone. Womens health plays largely on relationships and health, and it is important to keep their physical and mental wellness intact.

Conserving Water

Do you ever wake up and tell yourself, “I’m going to conserve water when I brush my teeth this morning.” Or do you let the water keep running while you brush? Do you ever take shorter showers to conserve water or do you take your time to enjoy the extra steam? Water is an essential resource on Earth making up seventy percent of the Earth’s surface. The average American uses one hundred gallons of water a day just at home. When I heard this statistic, I couldn’t believe that I used one gallons of water a day, but how? My normal habits consist of taking thirty minute showers, leaving the water running when I brush my teeth or wash the dishes, and watering the lawn for about an hour. I changed my habits once I realized actually how much water I was consuming individually. I changed my habits by finding ways to conserve water and still complete the tasks that need to get done. Ways to this consist of: not letting the water run, taking shorter showers, not using the dishwasher until it is full, and adjusting timers to lawn sprinklers. These are just very few of many ways water can be consumed at our homes.

Earth Day

Earth Day is a day where people have participated in a green act, such as planting a garden or other things that will benefits the environment. Earth Day is on April 22, but as the saying goes, every day is Earth Day. Earth Day began with a bang in 1970 as a nationwide protest and has since evolved into a global phenomenon, with thousands of events and initiatives engaging millions of people and spurring additional action. The Earth Day Network works with hundreds of thousands of schools around the globe, helping to integrate environmental themes into the curriculum to ensure that Earth Day has a year-round, lasting impact. I remember when I was in school  and on Earth Day my class had to go around the community and pick up trash. It was a good feeling to help the earth, even though you are suppose to do it every day.  The good news is that the spike in energy and food prices has increased awareness about the dangers of global warming and inspired people and corporations to conserve resources and "go green." Earth Day is very important, so participate.  If you want to read more fun facts about Earth Day, go to: http://www.henslernurseryindiana.com/earth-day-fun-facts/.
